Lindell Audio - 6X-500

The Lindell Audio 6X-500 is a 500 series module that brings together two elements that have become classics in analogue processing: a transformer mic preamplifier and a Pultec-type passive equaliser. Designed around an entirely discrete architecture based on the 990 amplifier, it takes a resolutely analogue approach, favouring rapid response, impact and an assertive sound signature.

The preamplifier offers up to 65dB of gain, enabling it to work equally well with dynamic, static and ribbon microphones. Both input and output are transformer-coupled and balanced, guaranteeing excellent isolation, a solid bass response and full, stable reproduction. The sonic character is often described as fast, punchy and frontal, with an immediate sense of presence.

The integrated equaliser is based on the fundamental principles of the passive Pultec, here combined with a compensation gain stage based on the 990. Bass has three selectable frequencies at 30 Hz, 60 Hz and 100 Hz, with a boost range of up to +12 dB. Treble also has three fixed frequencies, 6 kHz, 10 kHz and 16 kHz, with a maximum gain of +12 dB. The bandwidth of the treble boost is selectable directly on the printed circuit board, offering additional flexibility depending on use.

Designed for both recording and mixing, the 6X-500 is particularly effective on vocals, drums, guitars and other sources requiring both definition and density. It is compatible with all standard 500 series power supplies and incorporates 48 V phantom power as well as a polarity inverter. Level is displayed using a simple, effective 5-LED meter.
