To find out more...
Marcus Miller grew up in an environment where music was strongly linked to spirituality, notably through his father, an organist in a Baptist church. This influence can be heard in some of his compositions, which feature gospel-like harmonies and a highly expressive emotional approach. Even when he is playing in very modern jazz or funk contexts, he retains the depth inherited from his early musical experiences. This link between tradition and modernity is one of the most enduring hallmarks of his artistic identity.
