Presentation
Fast response, tonal balance and good projection are the hallmarks of a good instrument, and that's the case with all Thermal Tops. The sound, feel and vintage look of this hand-crafted, Japanese range provide a unique experience, enhanced by the Palathetic pickup, the TLD-2 preamp and the organic transparency of its new low profile.
The TLD-2 preamp is a simple circuit designed to protect the pickup and amplify the signal to eliminate any sonic degradation that may occur, particularly that caused by long cables. It's clean and quiet with minimal wiring and is discreetly mounted, showing no outward sign of the integrated electronics. The TLD-2 has 3 tone controls but you're likely to find the preset combined with the Palathetic pickup, one of the warmest and most acoustic sounds naturally.

To find out more...
Takamine adopts Thermal Top technology for a new range of guitars... A revolutionary technology that will take you back in time!
Everyone knows that acoustic wooden instruments, such as guitars, improve over time. Wood only reaches its full potential and best sound after several years... Behind the name Thermal Top lies an exclusive technique applied to guitar tops that accelerates the ageing process!
What is it?
It involves treating the wood of the tops, which is dried to 0% humidity, then gradually rehydrated to around 6%. This tightens the wood fibres and stabilises the wood, exactly the same process as occurs over the years, but in an accelerated version, and entirely under temperature and humidity control. This treatment makes the guitar more stable in the face of variations in climate and temperature, and allows it to reach its optimum level of sound as soon as you pick it up!
