Electric Guitar Effects
The Tone City Model M is a Boost / Distortion effect pedal designed to get your tubes firing... even when you don't have any. It takes the sonic spirit of vintage British amps and adapts it to a compact, easy-to-handle format. This 2-in-1 model combines two selectable distortion modes and an integrated boost circuit, all at the service of dynamic, expressive grains. With this revised 2022 version, the Model M offers an extended gain reserve and exemplary radio silence between riffs.

Presentation
The Tone City Model M pedal is all about high saturation. There are no endless buttons here: each control has its say, without going into a long technical monologue.
The two distortion modes (crunch or high gain) are controlled via a central switch and each has its own gain setting, so you can fine-tune your grain, whether you're more into leather jackets or vintage suits.
A single Tone control adjusts your overall EQ to compensate for a lazy tube or a slightly timid amp.
What's surprising about Tone City's Model M is the ability of its boost to tighten the bolts without making the sound cartoonish.
Far from simply kicking up the volume, the circuit acts as a discreet vocal coach that muscles the projection without breaking the windows.
A word of clarification: the boost is only activated when the distortion is already engaged. This avoids unpleasant surprises mid-chorus, and encourages you to take care with your transitions.
With an output level of up to +17dB, this is one pedal that's got a lot going for it.

To find out more...
The sound design of the Tone City Model M is a tribute to the British amps of the 60s and 70s.
To complete the picture, consider combining it with a warm analogue delay or spring reverb to accentuate its old-school nuances.
Old-timer's tip: link the high gain mode with the boost, then turn down the tone a little... it turns a flabby combo into a bubbling volcano.
