Warm Audio - JUDE MP

With the JUDE MP, Warm Audio and Sound Techniques are bringing back to life one of the preamp circuits associated with the iconic sound of Trident Studios. Geoff Frost drew on the original schematics to reproduce the A-Range’s signal path, from its discrete amplification right through to its output stage.

At the heart of the preamp lies a dual 3035 discrete Class A amplifier, complemented by bespoke CineMag transformers manufactured in the USA. This architecture delivers characterful amplification whilst retaining the technical characteristics of the original circuit.

The JUDE MP also stands out for its 9-position Z-Match system. By varying the input impedance, this setting alters the way the microphone interacts with the preamplifier. This makes it possible to explore different frequency responses and sonic characteristics using the same microphone.

The microphone impedance can be selected from three main values: 60 Ω, 200 Ω and 1.5 kΩ. The available gain ranges from 69 to 76 dB, depending on the impedance setting and the source conditions.

Designed as a genuine sound recording tool, the JUDE MP features a level meter as well as the essential functions of a professional microphone channel: 48 V phantom power, polarity reversal and line-level switching. The connections include an XLR microphone input and a 6.35 mm TS/TRS jack input, whilst the output is available via XLR and TRS jack.

Its compact size makes it a particularly attractive solution for recording vocals, acoustic instruments, drums or amplified sources where you wish to add a distinctively recognisable preamp character.
