Yamaha - FG9M Natural
Handcrafted in Japan, Yamaha's FG9M Natural dreadnought guitar is a flagship model in the FG series, designed for singer-songwriters and renowned for its surprising sound projection and clarity. It's built using professional-grade solid woods: an Adirondack spruce top and African mahogany back and sides, a combination that promotes rich warmth in the bass and precise definition in the treble. The FG9M has a subtle and elegant Japanese aesthetic, including fingerboard inlays inspired by Kumiki wood (Japanese wooden puzzles) and a rosette decorated with a braided rope pattern.
Presentation
From the very first chords, the Adirondack spruce top vibrates with precision, supported by X-shaped scalloped bracing that frees up the dynamics while maintaining a good hold. The solid mahogany body (back and sides) adds warmth and character, without fogging the sound, and critics praise the remarkable clarity and responsiveness of the accompaniment.
The traditional nitrocellulose lacquer finish lets the resonance flow unfiltered. The Gotoh SXN510 tuning machines in cosmic black ensure fine tuning stability, while the Elixir Nanoweb string option (12-53) extends precision over time.
For the seasoned guitarist, this guitar offers robust projection, consistent presence across the spectrum, from tight lows to transparent highs, and the feel of an instrument that responds to ear and gesture. With its hard case included, the FG9M becomes a companion ready to be played and taken along to rehearsals or on tour, an invitation to discover a rare balance between controlled power, expressiveness and refined craftsmanship.
