Presentation
The Zildjian K Custom 18" Hybrid Crash is aimed at drummers looking for a wider crash, with more scope under the stick, while retaining good definition. At 18 inches, it naturally takes up more space in the sound spectrum than a smaller model, but without becoming intrusive. On impact, the attack stands out clearly, followed by a darker background that adds depth to the sound.
This model has been designed with Akira Jimbo in mind, and you can feel it in the way the cymbal reacts. The thin thickness makes it very easy to trigger: it opens quickly, without needing to be forced, which helps to keep the cymbal playing smoothly. The unturned bell plays a key role here, providing greater projection and precision. As a result, even in an amplified context or on stage, the crash remains very present without losing legibility.
The hybrid finish, with a glossy centre and a traditional exterior, has a direct influence on the sound character. The initial attack is brighter, with darker harmonics in the background. This contrast makes for a lively cymbal, capable of adapting to different styles such as jazz fusion, modern rock, pop and contemporary music.
In a set, it easily complements other cymbals by adding a different colour. It's a good choice if you want a crash that breathes, with a little more width and nuance, while retaining fairly precise control over the decay.

Akira Jimbo is a Japanese drummer renowned for his highly technical approach and sense of groove. Born in 1959, he first came to prominence as a member of the jazz fusion group Casiopea, an emblematic group in Japan in the 1980s.
His playing is characterised by a high degree of independence between the members, impressive rhythmic precision and an ability to integrate electronic elements with acoustic drums. He is also known for his solo performances, in which he himself triggers samples as he plays, giving the impression of a full band with just one musician.
Akira Jimbo has collaborated with numerous international artists and regularly acts as a demonstrator and clinician for brands. His work with Zildjian on the K Custom Hybrid series reflects his quest for a balance between modernity, precision and richness of sound.
