Boss - RT-2 Rotary Ensemble
The Boss RT-2 Rotary Ensemble condenses the sonic nuances of rotary speakers into a package suitable for modern pedalboards. Designed for guitarists interested in dynamic modulation, it features 3 vintage-inspired modes, detailed controls and advanced functions. With a visual rotor display, '60s tube-style drive management and adjustable speed options, this pedal bridges the gap between analogue tradition and precise digital control. It slips into a mono or stereo set, is powered by battery or mains adaptor, and offers enhanced interactivity via footswitch or expression pedal. Want to shake up your solos or blur the lines with an evolving texture? Don't miss out on this little sound vortex machine from Boss.
Presentation
Ever wanted to control an effect in real time without triggering a tsunami of menus? The Boss RT-2 Rotary Ensemble answers with an intuitive multi-function switch and 4 types of action. Adding a footswitch or expression pedal turns control into a fluid playground. Accelerate, slow down, brake the rotors or modulate the effect on the fly. It's like flying a helicopter... without leaving the riff floor.
Every detail of the RT-2 has been designed to ensure that your signal never goes haywire. Digital conversion goes up to 32 bits, sampling reaches 48 kHz, and AF processing refines the sound even further. Add to this an adjustable balance between bass and treble, Rise/Fall transition settings and a Drive that verges on tube saturation, and you've got a pedal that's as cerebral as it is instinctive. Perfect for those who like buttons as much as sensations.
The pedal comes with 3 modes: a vintage classic, a spatially enriched version, and a modern variation with a more assertive grain. Each can be used to make a style shine, from a crystalline arpeggio to a more biting solo. These 3 characters are activated via a dedicated selector. You can change the world of sound at the click of a button, without having to multiply the number of pedals or operate a gas factory. Your ambiences take on greater depth, without plunging you into mysticism.
And to make sure you don't lose your bearings in the midst of the virtual rotors, the Boss RT-2 Rotary Ensemble's illuminated display gives you a visual indication of the speeds in play. Treble and bass rotate at their own pace, visible at a glance. It's simple, a little hypnotic and, frankly, reassuring when you're feeling your way around the controls. It's not just a gadget: it's a compass for navigators of floating sound.
Founded in 1973, Boss quickly established itself as one of the pillars of the guitar effects world. The Premium series takes this tradition even further, integrating modern tools into compact formats.
The RT-2 builds on this heritage, modernising a cult effect while preserving its historic grain and sonic uniqueness.

To find out more...
- Drive
Adds saturation inspired by vintage tube amps. Depending on the position of the rear "Drive/Balance" selector, it acts either on the distortion level or on the volume balance between the treble and bass rotors.
- Level
Adjusts the overall output volume of the pedal, without affecting the saturation level or the balance between the rotors. It aligns the processed signal with the level of the bypassed signal.
- Slow
Determines the slow rotation speed of the rotors, allowing more fluid or atmospheric textures to be sculpted, depending on the style being played.
- Fast
Sets the speed of rotation of the rotors to fast, ideal for more dynamic, percussive or expressive effects.
▶ And if I press here?
- Mode (I / II / III): Chooses between 3 distinct sonic voices:
- Mode I: Faithful replica of the classic vintage rotary speaker.
- Mode II: Expanded version with a wider frequency response, ideal with saturation pedals
- Mode III: Modern voice with a more intense and defined effect, suitable for solos or arpeggiated playing
- Rise/Fall Time: Adjusts the transition time between slow and fast rotor speeds. It can be used to obtain a more gradual or steeper rise or fall, depending on the effect required.
- Drive/Balance (rear switch): Allows you to assign the function of the Drive potentiometer.
- In Drive mode: controls the saturation level
- In Balance mode: adjusts the volume balance between the treble and bass rotors
- Footswitch mode selector: Provides 4 options for controlling bypass and rotor speeds via the built-in footswitch:
- Instant speed change
- Hold
- Toggle
- Brake stop
(Also allows further configuration with external footswitches)
