Static Microphone

Chandler Limited TG Microphone, large-diaphragm cardioid and omni condenser microphone with 2 circuits and EMI Tape Equalizer function.

ARTICLE N° 81625
Continuing the rich tradition of innovation, the TG Microphone from Chandler Limited EMI Abbey Road Studios is unique in its features and, as the name suggests, the sound is distinctly TG.

Its dedicated power supply, rather than conventional 48V phantom power, helps to give it a broader sound than a solid-state unit.

The TG Microphone's integrated Tape Equalizer section, combined with its Dual Tone System, dedicated power supply and other features, creates an extremely flexible microphone capable of competing in scenarios where the FET47, C414, U87 and U47 have traditionally found their place.

The band EQ is adapted from the NAB/IEC band EQ found on vintage EMI TG mastering desks, and applied to great effect in the TG microphone. Historically used to compensate for tapes played back on machines of opposite standards, the tape EQ allows the engineer to sculpt the sound at source instead of external processing.

The possibilities for shaping the microphone are even more extensive when the tape EQ is combined with the selectable 90/50 Hz Low-Cut filter.

The Dual Tone System modifies the TG microphone input and extends its flexibility to capture a wide range of sources. System "A" is the TG mid forward, while the other voicing "B" takes extreme SPLs and is at home wherever a FET47 would be the choice.

TG HISTORY
In 1968, EMI Studios and Abbey Road changed their recording and mixing consoles from the valve-based REDD to the transistorised TG12345. The remarkable sound quality of the new EMI TG12345 transistor recording console, with its extended EQ and, for the first time, a compressor/limiter on each channel, made a lasting impression on The Beatles' 'Abbey Road' and Pink Floyd's 'Dark Side of the Moon' albums, as well as recordings by Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and The Rolling Stones. Decommissioned in 1983, the TG desks were built by EMI for its studios and were never marketed.
