Drawmer - 1979 Channel-Strip

The Drawmer 1979 is an analogue console channel strip designed to enhance studio recordings with a complete audio processing chain. Its ultra-transparent preamp offers up to 66 dB of gain with phantom power and switchable impedance matching to accommodate any type of microphone.

Its mic, line and instrument DI inputs allow different sources to be integrated into a single workflow. The dedicated preamp output also facilitates integration with other equipment, ensuring great flexibility in signal routing.

This console channel features a ‘Lift’ section based on technologies developed by Drawmer, capable of boosting very weak signals without altering the louder passages. This system adjusts the gain in real time to preserve natural nuances without introducing compression artefacts.

It can be used to capture delicate vocals, subtly played guitars or ambient sounds requiring detailed reproduction. The FET circuit can also be deactivated to achieve a completely transparent signal path when an analogue colour is not desired.

The Drawmer 1979’s EQ section captures the spirit of 1970s analogue equipment with a fully adjustable 3-band parametric equaliser. Each band offers up to ±12 dB of correction, with a bandwidth control on the midrange to precisely fine-tune the frequency response.

This design allows for subtle adjustments or targeted corrections during sound design. The order of the equaliser and compressor can be reversed depending on the desired processing, with an independent bypass function to quickly compare different approaches.

The soft-curve FET compression provides musical dynamic handling suitable for a wide range of recorded sources. Its settings allow for discreet control over vocals or instrumentation, as well as more pronounced compression on elements requiring greater character. The wet/dry mix also offers parallel blending of equalisation and compression, creating a precise balance between sonic impact and preservation of the original signal.
