Triton Audio - Kompressor

Managing the dynamic range of a microphone often requires several adjustments and a good understanding of the compression parameters. With Kompressor, the approach is deliberately different. The idea is to offer a tool that acts immediately on the signal, without increasing the number of controls or complicating the audio chain.

This in-line compressor is inserted directly between the microphone and the preamp. It uses a hybrid FET-OPTO circuit to deliver progressive, natural compression. Its behaviour remains musical, with no harsh effects, making it particularly suitable for vocals or sources requiring discreet but effective control.

The principle is based on a single potentiometer. Turning the knob increases the compression level, while the overall gain adapts accordingly. When the signal reaches the compression threshold, a built-in LED gives a visual indication of the circuit's activity. Flashing indicates light to moderate compression, while continuous illumination indicates more pronounced action.

This simplified operation does not limit the possibilities, but makes them more accessible. The result naturally depends on the output level of the microphone used. A low-level microphone will produce a more subtle compression, while a more sensitive microphone will trigger a more obvious action. This interaction makes it possible to adapt the rendering without having to adjust several parameters.

The Kompressor is compatible with dynamic, ribbon and tube microphones. It uses phantom power to operate, but does not transmit it to the microphone, ensuring safe use with sensitive models. Compact and robust, it integrates easily into an existing configuration, while providing immediate control of dynamics as soon as it is picked up.
