The RE90B is a condenser microphone designed for use in surface-mount applications such as distance learning centres, video conferencing systems, teleconferencing systems and sound reinforcement.
This condenser microphone offers a frequency response of 80 Hz to 15 kHz, emphasising frequencies that accentuate the human voice while minimising low-frequency noise and rumble.
With a sound pressure level of 125 dB, the RE90 is more than capable of reproducing excessively loud signals without distortion. The microphone must be powered by a 9 to 52 V phantom power supply (not supplied) and has unterminated +/-/ground screw connections.
The RE90B has a semi-cardioid pick-up pattern to encourage high levels before feedback and to suppress ambient noise. All surface microphones operating on a flat surface are subject to an increase in microphone sensitivity with increasing frequency; this is known as the baffle effect.
To counteract this effect, the RE90B has been designed with internal equalisation to give a flat sensitivity response.
The RE90B is designed to be powered by an external phantom power supply from 9 to 52 V. The microphone is housed in a heavy-duty die-cast zinc body, protected by a sturdy perforated steel shield.
The microphone body is designed to perform two distinct functions. Firstly, the housing is electronically isolated from the surface on which it is placed by the internal rubber pad and fibre washers when permanently mounted.
Secondly, the miniature microphone cable can be routed directly from the rear of the microphone, or the cable can be routed from the bottom of the microphone through the table top without the need to remove it. The RE90B cable is connected to the microphone via an internal theft-resistant terminal block.

Electro-Voice's RE90B is part of the RE series, which is highly protected from RFI/GSM thanks to EV's exclusive RF Shield technology.
For permanent installation, a drilling template is supplied. The body of the RE90B is designed as a slim case. Both microphones are protected against shock by a combination of a heavy die-cast housing, a non-slip rubber bottom pad and internal padding for the microphone and PCB.
This combination of isolation minimises the mechanical coupling of surface vibrations to the microphone. For the RE90B, a 3m two-conductor shielded miniature black cable is supplied with a male XLR type connector.
