Epiphone - Dave Mustaine Flying V Custom Black Metallic
Dave Mustaine is the guitarist, singer, songwriter and founder of MEGADETH, a Grammy Award-winning and multi-platinum-selling band. With such an incredible track record, it's hardly surprising that Dave expects nothing less than excellence from any instrument that bears his name!
Presentation
The charismatic frontman/singer/guitarist of American thrash band Megadeth, which he formed shortly after being ousted from Metallica (no less!). Wishing to prove to the world that he had what it took and that he too could make his mark on the world of metal, the band has been releasing albums and touring the world since the 80s, often reuniting with his old riff-mates.
In the world of guitars, Dave Mustaine is renowned for having played the V formats of the biggest manufacturers (ESP/LTD, Jackson among others) and it was only logical that Gibson turned to him when it came to finding an ambassador for the brand and model.
The result is the Dave Mustaine signature range, which can be found in all Gibson, Epiphone and Kramer divisions.
This magnificent Flying V Custom Black is based on a mahogany body for a full, punchy sound with great resonance, to which a mahogany neck is glued. The profile of the neck has been designed according to the artist's wishes, to ensure great playing comfort without losing roundness, while the ebony fingerboard adds a touch of incisiveness and brilliance to the attack.
To match the guitarist's wishes even more closely, the headstock is not the typical 3x3 but the 'Hockey' version, a true emblem of the 80s.
Mustaine has been a fervent user of Seymour Duncan pickups since the 80s (mainly the JB/59 pair), and to pay tribute to his long career, the American manufacturer designed a pair of Thrash Factory humbuckers for him.
Taking up Dave's favourite sound, which can be found on his legendary albums Rust in Peace & Countdown to Extinction, Seymour Duncan has reworked the famous SH-4/SH-1 to create this new signature set (after the active and demented LiveWire).
This signature pair is controlled by 2 volume pots (1 per pickup) and a general tone pot to help you control the colour and depth of the sound.
To protect this little jewel of Metal, Epiphone supplies a rigid flightcase adapted to the format, so you can go out and burn up the stages of the world in style.
