Focusrite - RedNet MP8R
Remote controllable 8-channel microphone preamplifier, combined with an AN converter, for the Dante IP audio network. Developed from RedNet 4, and having benefited from the advice of the best sound engineers during its design, the MP8R offers a range of features that make it particularly useful in sound reinforcement, recording and live broadcast environments, where reliability is vital.
Presentation
It has two separate power supplies, equipped with fault detectors. As such, it has two separate power sockets at the rear. In the event of a power failure, you will be informed remotely and by a front panel indicator.
Its preamps provide a maximum extended input level of 28dBu, as well as a 20dB attenuator, high-pass filter, polarity inversion and phantom power. Each preamp offers two impedance choices, 10 kΩ or 2.4 kΩ, giving you maximum flexibility when using multiple mic preamps in parallel.
One of the MP8R's special features, aimed specifically at a live environment, is its ability to adapt to gain.
On the network, the device comes in the form of a 16-channel interface: the first eight correspond to the signals coming directly from the preamps, while the next eight correspond to the first ones, but automatically adjusted in level by a DSP.
This architecture allows splits (typically between returns and front) to be made digitally, enabling an engineer to manage the gain of one microphone in analogue while another receives a constant output level whatever the gain parameter chosen in analogue space.
