Preamps

SPL Crescendo 8, 8-channel preamp with 120V technology. A major technological innovation for unrivalled sound recording.

ARTICLE N° 69690
Why choose this SPL Crescendo multi-channel microphone preamp?
Firstly, because of the build quality common to all products from the German brand SPL.
Secondly, because it's the first multi-channel preamp in the world to use 120V technology.
This high voltage in the machine provides such a huge dynamic range and distortion limit that you can record all the dynamics of your microphone without any limitations.

n addition, imagine having no influence on the sound via the electronics of the preamplifier and being able to enjoy the sound of your microphones like never before.

SUP-op-amp Thanks to the discrete accumulation of our exclusive high-voltage amplifiers, SUPRA SPL op-amps, and therefore a possible internal operating voltage of +/- 60V (120V technology), Crescendo delivers unprecedented technical performance data.
Crescendo is capable of amplifying the fastest transients, the finest detail and the full frequency range, cleanly and with almost no distortion.

Use the Mic Gain to adjust the pre-amplification. You can control a range from 18dB to 70dB. For high-level signals that don't need to be amplified as much, you can use a PAD with -20dB. This shifts the amplification control range from -2dB to 50dB.

The differential amplifiers in the input stage are made up of pairs of transistors, consolidated in a special housing. Precise matching of the transistors and thermal coupling ensure high common-mode rejection and extremely low THD values. The choice of transistors and electrical resistors has an enormous impact on the sound. Countless listening sessions went into choosing the perfect components for the Crescendo - it was worth it!

The discrete operational amplifiers in the output stage are capable of handling long cable runs without any problems. The output stages function as current amplifiers which, with a quiescent current of 6 mA, also allow Class A operation. We have almost completely dispensed with the use of coupling capacitors in order to avoid their sonic drawbacks (diffusion, blurring, loss of dynamics). However, to eliminate the DC voltage, active servo circuits are used.

Each of the Crescendo's eight preamplifier sections provides individual gain control (Mic Gain), its own vumeter, a phase inverter, phantom power, a -20dB PAD switch and a reduced level display on the vumeter (-dix).

The toroidal transformer power supply is built into the Crescendo case. To prevent electrical interference from the preamplifier power supply, it is protected by a special metal foil. The transformer itself is also encapsulated in Mu-metal.
