Genelec - 8040 BRwM (la pièce)

The Genelec 8040 Raw is a 2-way active monitor designed for recording, mixing and post-production studios, broadcast facilities and any environment where listening accuracy is essential. This RAW version, model 8040BRwM, features the same acoustic architecture as the 8040B but is distinguished by its cabinet made from recycled aluminium, left unpainted and without any additional finish. Each speaker therefore exhibits slight visual variations, giving it a naturally unique appearance.

At the heart of the speaker, Genelec combines a 165 mm woofer with a 19 mm metal dome tweeter, each driven by its own 90 W Class AB amplifier. This active bi-amplification system delivers a total of 180 W, enabling the 8040 Raw to achieve a short-term SPL of 105 dB at 1 m, with a claimed peak SPL of 115 dB per pair when playing musical content. It thus offers sufficient dynamic headroom for demanding near-field listening and medium-sized rooms.

The frequency response extends from 41 Hz to 25 kHz at -6 dB, whilst Genelec specifies an accuracy of ±2 dB between 48 Hz and 20 kHz. The Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW) system helps to control directivity and achieve a more consistent listening experience within the listening area.

The die-cast aluminium Minimum Diffraction Enclosure, meanwhile, helps to minimise diffraction effects from the cabinet. Its bass-reflex port extends the bass response whilst maintaining a relatively compact form factor. The speaker is fitted with the Iso-Pod™, which facilitates positioning and helps to decouple the speaker from its support surface.

For the user, the appeal of the 8040 Raw therefore lies in a particularly well-balanced combination of power, precision and versatility. It offers the level and extension in the bass range required for many professional applications, whilst maintaining a footprint suitable for installation in a studio or control room. Finally, its RAW finish adds a distinctive aesthetic and environmental dimension, without altering the acoustic performance of the 8040B.
