The Plugin Fuzz pedal is JHS Pedals' tribute to the Boss Tone, the first commercially successful Fuzz introduced at the 1966 NAMM Show. The original model was a small 4.5 x 5.7 cm moulded plastic box that plugged directly into the guitar's jack output. As this type of effect was never as practical as a floor pedal, JHS designed its own version, in pedal format and with the same unique tone.

In the mid-1960s, the world's first nuclear company, Victoreen Instruments, launched Jordan Electronics.
They started making transistor guitar amps and launched the first commercially successful American plug-in effect at the 1966 NAMM Show, the Boss Tone (a true testament to the ingenuity of Jordan Electronics owner George Cole and chief engineer Bob Garcia) although it wasn't marketed until 1967.
