Schoeps - CMC 6 U xt

The Schoeps CMC 6xt U is the high-resolution version of the renowned CMC 6 amplifier, developed to fully exploit the potential of high-sampling-rate recordings. When paired with a compatible Colette axial-address capsule, it extends the frequency response beyond 40 kHz, with a technical range specified by SCHOEPS as 20 Hz to 60 kHz.

This extension is not merely a matter of bandwidth. SCHOEPS has paid particular attention to keeping inherent noise low above 20 kHz, in order to preserve high dynamic range in the ultrasonic part of the spectrum. This characteristic becomes particularly useful when signals recorded above 20 kHz are subsequently slowed down and transposed to a lower pitch: the noise present in this range is also transposed downwards and may become audible.

The CMC 6 Uxt is therefore ideally suited to sound design, particularly for sound effects intended for cinema and post-production. By recording at a high sampling rate and then applying down-pitching, the sound engineer can achieve rich and realistic slowed-down sounds, whilst preventing unwanted noise from the ultrasonic range from becoming excessively noticeable after processing.

The amplifier also retains the fundamental qualities of the CMC 6 platform: a balanced output stage, low impedance, P12 or P48 phantom power, excellent common-mode rejection and SCHOEPS RFI Shield protection against radio interference. The XLR-3M analogue output allows for direct integration into a professional audio system.

The CMC 6 U xt is therefore a particularly suitable choice for sound recordists, sound designers, sound engineers and post-production studios wishing to utilise HiRes recordings beyond the conventional audio range.
