Sennheiser electronic GmbH and Co. KG is a German company which manufactures microphones, headsets, telephone accessories, aviator helmets and equipment for professionals.
The company was founded in 1945, just weeks after the end of the Second World War, Fritz Sennheiser (° May 9, 1912 - † May 17, 2010) and seven fellow engineers of the University of Hannover in a laboratory called Laboratorium Wennebostel , which gave the company name: Labor W. The laboratory was named after the village of Wennebostel, where he had been displaced because of the war. Its first product was a voltmeter. Labor W began building microphones in 1946.
In 1955, the company had 250 employees. Labor W was renamed Sennheiser electronic in 1958. Sennheiser was transformed into a limited company in 1973. The company began producing modern wireless microphones in 1982. That same year, the founder Fritz Sennheiser has transferred the company's management his son, Jörg Sennheiser.
Dr. Fritz Sennheiser, founder of the brand, died May 17, 2010 at the age of 98 years.
