The Tone Beast ("TB") is a high-quality mic preamp that easily reproduces a variety of sources thanks to its high gain reserve. Fitted with CineMag transformers custom-made in the USA and made up of different discrete signal streams, it produces a full, round sound that's much bigger than its price tag.
THE TONE BEAST STORY
In the 60s and 70s, many console and preamp manufacturers hid the operational amplifier stage ("op amp" in the jargon) of their preamps by enclosing its components in an opaque box, itself fixed to the printed circuit board. Inside this small box, the components were glued so that they could not be dismantled or identified. Manufacturers at the time believed that the sound signature of operational amplifiers was valuable enough to be protected.
