The Ashdown The Saint Avant 5 Lambo Metallic Blue adds this low string to a resolutely modern design, with a 40 mm poplar body that provides a clear and balanced tonal foundation. The bolt-on neck, crafted from roasted maple, features a C-shaped profile and a fingerboard with a 350 mm radius: this combination provides a consistent feel under your fingers, whether you’re playing a classic bass line or venturing further up the neck. The black hexagonal inlays add a subtle graphic touch to this contemporary aesthetic.

The multiscale design plays a particularly interesting role here with five strings. The fan-shaped frets help distribute tension more evenly across the different strings, which in particular helps keep the low-end string firm and well-defined. This allows you to play the lower register with greater precision, whilst maintaining a consistent feel as you move up towards the higher registers. The 24 stainless steel frets further expand your playing range and provide a smooth surface under your fingers, making it a pleasure to move around the fretboard and perform bends.

When it comes to tone, Ashdown has opted for three J-type pickups with Alnico V magnets, arranged in a rather original JJJ configuration. Their clear and dynamic response allows you to shape your tone between full bass, detailed mids and sharper trebles. The two volume controls let you balance the different pickups, whilst the tone control and the dedicated J-pickup blend control offer a simple way to fine-tune the character of your sound. The black vintage-style bridge, 18:19 ratio tuners and D’Addario XL165 strings round off a bass that naturally finds its place in genres where the low end and playing freedom really matter.
