Audient - Horizon 32

The Audient Horizon 32 audio interface serves as a hub for high-capacity production environments. Its 50 inputs and 50 outputs via Thunderbolt 3 make it easy to integrate a mixing desk, external processing and a summing system into a single infrastructure.

32-bit conversion at up to 192 kHz, combined with a dynamic range of 133 dB, ensures highly detailed signal reproduction. The ESS ES9823PRO and ES9039 converters, complemented by OPA1602 and OPA1612 operational amplifiers, ensure precise capture of transients and a stable stereo image, with a level of detail suited to mixing and mastering work.

With 32 line inputs and 32 line outputs distributed across 8 DB25 connectors, the routing remains well-suited to extensively wired analogue set-ups. This setup minimises the need to switch between different working configurations and keeps external processors connected to their usual ports, ensuring a more direct signal path.

The Horizon 32 features a dedicated stereo path to the mix bus, providing an independent channel for recording the final mix to the digital audio workstation without utilising the 32 main channels. The dedicated monitoring outputs also provide a separate reference listening path. The +18 dBu and +24 dBu levels accommodate different reference levels, whilst the BNC Word Clock connections ensure seamless integration into a synchronised digital infrastructure.

Audient is focusing here on the gradual evolution of the infrastructure. Up to four units can be daisy-chained under a single macOS driver, providing up to 200 inputs and 200 outputs in an expanded configuration. The two ADAT interfaces add 16 channels of digital expansion per unit, particularly for external preamps. The Thunderbolt 3 connection is also compatible with Thunderbolt 4 and Thunderbolt 5, with a specified round-trip latency of 0.99 ms at 192 kHz and 64 samples, which facilitates native real-time processing.
