Most recording studios use 2 or 3-way monitor speakers, to provide a broad, high-level listening reference. But you should not forget to also listen to your mix on a system limited in low frequencies, such as on a television, a radio, a computer, a car radio, an iPod station, etc. This allows you to see how your mix looks, on any medium.

It is important to pay close attention to the midrange frequencies of vocals/guitar/keyboards. This is where unfiltered broadband listening becomes very useful.

The Avantone Pro Active Mixcubes BK provide this very soft sound, with the benefit of wide-band reproduction, compared to the original 5C Sound Cubes. Listening tests reveal that the MixCubes offer a smooth, more open, transparent response in the high end with an extended response in the bass, while retaining their initial basic character.

The Avantone Pro MixCube BK mini monitors provide excellent sound reproduction, for reference mixing. The boxes are shielded, so they can be placed next to computer screens, without risk of disruption.

What struck the Sonovente technicians listening was the purity of Avantone's sound in terms of distortion, compared to the Auratones they had previously used or, in fact, compared to any affordable speaker. This is particularly noticeable in the low frequencies, and this feature combined with the transient speed, reinforced paper cone, makes the MixCube extremely revealing of any distortion.

When placing Avantone MixCubes on stands or consoles, it is best to keep them at ear height and slightly angled toward the sound engineer. Since they are shielded, they can be placed near a screen or television without causing problems. Threads under the speakers, compatible with mic stands, will also allow you to create creative positioning options in unusual studio listening situations.
