Avantone Pro - CV-12BLA

The Avantone CV-12 BLA is a thoroughly reworked version of the famous CV-12, the result of a direct collaboration between Avantone Pro and Black Lion Audio, a world leader in the modification and optimisation of professional audio equipment. The aim was never to radically transform the microphone, but to exploit its full potential by correcting its original limitations, particularly in the upper midrange and dynamics management.

This BLA version is based on a complete overhaul of the internal circuitry, incorporating a Solen Fastcap link capacitor, a better-filtered and more stable external power supply, and a 34mm CK12 capsule with peripheral termination. These technical choices have resulted in a more balanced response, with softer highs, a more present bass and a more natural sound image, while retaining the warm character typical of tube microphones.

The CV-12 BLA stands out for its real versatility. With nine directional patterns selectable from the external power supply, it is equally suited to vocal miking, acoustic instruments, string ensembles, brass instruments, pianos and guitar amplifiers. The high dynamic reserve, combined with the -10dB attenuator, means that powerful sources can be handled without unwanted saturation, while maintaining excellent definition.

The tube section, based on a low-noise 6072A, provides a controlled harmonic texture, without excess, and a sensation of depth that is much appreciated when recording lead vocals. Black Lion Audio's work has also resulted in a notable improvement in the signal-to-noise ratio, making the microphone perfectly usable on more delicate sources or at low levels.
