B&C Speakers - DH450 8 Ohm Driver

The DH450 8 Ohm compression driver marks a major step forward in the design approach developed by B&C Speakers with its HLX (Helical Loudspeaker eXtension) series.

This range is based on a patented phase plug principle that breaks with traditional architectures, exploiting a helical central channel whose length is adjusted to match the peripheral channels. This geometry enables more coherent phasing of the signal as soon as it leaves the diaphragm, while maintaining an extremely compact format.

This helical approach offers a number of concrete benefits. It increases the effective area of the diaphragm without increasing the overall diameter of the motor, while improving the efficiency of the use of magnetic flux.

The result is a motor that is lighter, more compact and more economical to produce, yet capable of operating with a low cut-off around 1 kHz, a point rarely achieved by motors of this size. This capability facilitates integration with midrange or low-midrange drivers, simplifying filtering and improving the coherence of the connection zone.

The HT Polymer diaphragm contributes directly to this performance. This material combines lightness, thermal stability and good mechanical strength, which helps to limit distortion, particularly intermodulation, while maintaining precise, legible reproduction at the top end of the spectrum. Combined with a 44 mm aluminium voice coil, it contributes to high efficiency and extended response up to 18 kHz, without excessive harshness.
