Electric Guitar Effects
Formula No. 55 is a Foundation Overdrive that replicates, in every detail, the preamp section of the classic Fender tweed 5E3 Deluxe using a fully analogue JFET circuit.

Presentation
The Formula 55's volume and tone controls replicate the circuitry of the 5E3, giving you the response of an authentic tweed amp.
The output section is designed to give you punch and volume, with a low output impedance to drive your amp perfectly.
Set the Hi-Lo switch to Lo for the cleaner response of vintage tweed. In the Hi position, it's like modifying your amp by swapping the 'standard' tubes for higher-gain ones.

PRESENCE: this control regulates frequencies in the 5 kHz range, allowing you to adjust the treble response to your microphones and amp.
MASTER: This volume pot has great potential, allowing you to dial in a huge, fat, woody clean sound or push your amplifier into overdrive.
TONE: This parameter sounds and behaves exactly like real Deluxe amps, you'll notice that as you turn up the VOLUME control, the influence of the TONE control becomes more subtle when the VOLUME is at maximum.
In the lower VOLUME ranges, you can set it at noon for the flattest response, to the left of noon for those jazzy cleans, or turn it up for a bolder, bolder midrange that cuts through the mix.
VOLUME: This is essentially your gain control. It works in concert with the HI/LO switch, allowing you to set the maximum level of dirtiness you want, from squeaky cleans to DAMN That's STANKY!
You want clean? Put your guitar down!
The HI/LO switch offers two gain modes:
- HI mode (Red LED) is the unleashed, hot rodded 12AX7 mode with more gain and saturation. You'll notice that your choice essentially turns into a kind of throttle, stop the attack and it cleans up, but there's still that potential for acceleration when you get going!
- LO mode (Green LED) has a lower overall gain, as if your amp were now fitted with 12AY7 preamp tubes.
Cleaner and more immediate in the pick attack with more bounce when you're dialling in chords, but it still has that fat, juicy harmonic response.
