Electric Guitar Effects

The MXR M310 granular synthesis pedal for guitar opens up a sonic landscape where notes fragment, shift and reassemble into shifting textures – ranging from shimmering pads to offset repetitions and glitchy patterns – lending the playing an almost cinematic quality. It thus expands the role of a traditional effects pedal with an approach where each note becomes a material to be sculpted, offering possibilities ranging from ethereal atmospheres to more chaotic rhythmic structures, allowing the pedalboard to breathe a little more freely.

ARTICLE N° 126851
The MXR M310 Textures is a granular synthesis pedal that captures the guitar signal, breaks it down into grains and replays it in three distinct modes, to create fragmented repeats, evolving pads or layered notes and chords.

The Size, Overlap, Pitch, Time and Regen controls allow you to shape the granular material and how it evolves over time, with a grain size ranging from 60 ms to 2 s, up to 30 simultaneous grains and a pitch range covering 2 octaves up or down.

A reverb, a filter and a vibrato expand the range of textures available, with secondary parameters dedicated to their adjustment and randomisation, as well as a tap tempo function capable of synchronising the grains to the beat, bringing the processing closer to the rhythms and movements of a musical arrangement.

Designed for both mono and stereo set-ups, the pedal features TRS inputs and outputs, as well as a configurable CTR connector for expression, tap tempo or right-channel output.

This architecture makes it easy to integrate into an existing effects chain, with mono, wet/dry or true stereo options suited to set-ups requiring a wide soundstage. The footswitch can also control the activation and freezing of buffers depending on the selected mode.

In Delay mode, the M310 Textures can enrich a melodic line with granular repetitions whose pitch, direction and density evolve as you play – an approach well-suited to atmospheric introductions or transitions where a conventional repetition becomes a more fluid soundscape.

The Layers mode can be used to build extended chords or polyphonic textures from four independent notes or chords, each with its own fade-in and fade-out, which also lends itself to evolving accompaniments or backgrounds where several elements remain suspended in time.
