D'Angelico - Excel SS SOHO Dark Cherry Burst

In the hands of a luthier, the laminated spruce of the top reveals its true nature: a fully hollow body that amplifies every nuance, finished in a Dark Cherry Burst gradient over a laminated flamed maple back and sides (back and sides: Trans Dark Cherry without gradient). Born out of a collaboration with guitarist Mark Whitfield, this Single Cutaway measures 381 mm wide by 44.45 mm deep, edged with a five-ply body binding.
The three-piece neck, set into the body, features a C-shaped profile with a thickness increasing from 20 mm at the first fret to 22 mm at the twelfth, finished in a gloss varnish. The generous ebony fingerboard, with a radius of 406.4 mm, features 22 Jescar 47/104 nickel-silver frets and Split Block mother-of-pearl inlays, set within a three-ply binding. The 42.86 mm Tusq nut and the double-action truss rod, located beneath the Skyscraper plate signed by the artist, maintain intonation across a scale length extended to 635 mm — the natural range for D’Angelico Electrozinc 12-52 strings.
The floating ebony bridge allows the body to breathe, whilst the Stairstep tailpiece channels the tension cleanly. A single floating Kent Armstrong Jazzy Joe pickup — a mini-humbucker with a mellow tone — is controlled via volume and tone controls, featuring 500 kΩ potentiometers and ebony knobs. Grover 509 locking tuners and lockable strap buttons, gold-plated like all the hardware, complete the Throwback Scroll-Style headstock. Made in Korea, this Excel SS finds its voice in jazz and mellow blues, complemented by its included gig bag.
