D'Angelico makes a big impression with the Premier Gramercy LS Matte Black, a cutaway Grand Auditorium electro-acoustic guitar that plays on contrasts: a matt black laminated spruce top set against a satin-finished natural mahogany back and sides. A dark, understated look that offers a change from the classic wood finishes typical of this style.
The Scarf-joined mahogany neck, with a Slim C profile, glides effortlessly under the fingers, featuring a rosewood fingerboard and Pearl Dots marking the 20 Medium Jumbo frets. The dovetail joint, a legacy of traditional luthiery, ensures the neck remains firmly attached to the body over time – a method that luthiers have used for generations for its durability.
Inside, the X-Scalloped bracing shapes the soundboard for a balanced tone—neither too deep in the bass nor too bright in the treble—making it equally suited to accompanying vocals with just the guitar or providing a more rhythmic backing.
The D’Angelico MG-30 preamp features a tuner and EQ with simple controls, which is handy when plugging straight into the front panel or into a sound card at home. PPS bridge and nut, chrome-plated Stairstep Wave tuning machines: the Gramercy LS ticks all the right boxes without any frills.
