DiGiCo's MADI UB hot-plugs into a single USB 2.0 port on your computer to give you access in 4 seconds to 48 channels of recording via coaxial MADI connectivity (the first 48 channels of any AES10-compliant MADI stream, as well as AES3 (AES/EBU) coaxial stereo audio).
The USB cable is used to power the MADI UB, even if you're transmitting signals over 100m of cable.
DiGiCo's aim with the UB MADI is to provide a large number of channels without sacrificing latency, quality or reliability.

The revolutionary performance of the SD7-derived FPGA and integrated 500MHz dual-core processor and USB 2.0 specification means that the sweet spot for an audio interface is 48 channels of simultaneous I/O (full-duplex at 48KHz only).
Due to the huge amount of extra processing power already built in, as with all DiGiCo products, upgrades in features and capabilities are possible.
The multi-device switching nature of USB means that it is more difficult for manufacturers to achieve low latency performance, but with UB MADI's highly tuned processor and USB driver, DiGiCo has achieved the industry's best latencies over USB 2.0.
As UB MADI is fully digital end-to-end and does not rely on the USB data clock for synchronisation, jitter is not an issue. All audio data is recovered and the input clock tolerance massively exceeds the minimum AES specification.
UB MADI is compatible with virtually any Windows or Macintosh® computer with an Intel® Core ™ Duo or higher processor. Recording and/or playback of 48 channels of 24-bit audio requires a hard disk or SSD drive with reasonable performance and minimal fragmentation. DiGiCo provides a high-performance, ultra-low latency driver for Windows and Macintosh.
