Presentation
Sonovente recommends the Elysia Xpressor 500 as an excellent dynamics processing tool. In addition to being the most versatile compressor in the 500 series format, it boasts the same features as its famous predecessors. This gives you access not only to high-level compression, but also to an unparalleled range of signal control.
Whether you want to fine-tune it once and for all or immerse yourself in dynamic experimentation, the Xpressor 500 is for you. Its discrete audio circuitry operating in constant Class-A mode ensures the best sound quality: clear, open, and punchy.
From bus compression to separate track compression, including the most creative dynamics approaches—the Xpressor 500 delivers on all fronts.
The Xpressor 500 is a module designed to be installed in enclosures compatible with the 500 API format (not included). It cannot operate without being connected to one of these enclosures.
The power supply is 125 milliamps at +/- 16 volts DC. This is higher than most other modules available for the 500 format, but is explained by its constant Class-A operation.
Most API 500 format enclosures will provide adequate power, but you may be limited in the number of modules you can install.

Controls
-
Threshold (Thresh): The threshold at which the compressor engages. As soon as the level exceeds this threshold, the signal is compressed.
-
Attack: The transient response of the compressor. This is also the time it takes for the compressor to reach 10 dB of gain reduction after exceeding the threshold.
-
Release: The time it takes for the compressor to return the signal to unity level after the signal has passed above the threshold.
-
Ratio: Refers to the ratio between the input level and the output level. The xpressor 500 also allows you to select negative ratios.
-
SCF: A low-cut filter in the xpressor 500's sidechain prevents excessive compression or pumping effects when the low-frequency content is high.
-
Gain Reduction Limiter (GRL): Limits the control voltage. This new limiter is not located in the audio circuitry, but in the compressor's control circuit.
-
Gain: The compressor's make-up gain. This compensates for the loss of gain caused by the compression itself.
-
Mix: The uncompressed and compressed signals can be mixed using the single mix control. Parallel compression on board!
-
Gain Reduction Meter: Expressed in dB, it shows the amount of gain reduction applied to the source. It continues to display the reduction even after the compressor is bypassed.
-
GRL LED: Indicates the Gain Reduction Limiter's activity. When enabled, the incoming signal does not exceed the maximum compression amount selected using the knob.
-
Auto Fast: A semi-automation function. This function automatically shortens the attack time on the strongest and fastest transients.
-
Log Release (Log Rel): Designates a different shape of the Release curve. When this function is activated, the curve changes from a linear progression to a smoother logarithmic one.
-
Warm Mode: The xpressor 500 offers the ability to make the source sound different by altering its frequency, harmonic, and transient content.
-
Hit It! Activates the xpressor 500 (LED lit) or bypasses it (hardwire bypass) while keeping the GR meter active.
