SSL has built in an impressive dynamics section: THAT 2181A VCA compressor, Fast Attack mode, Peak Detect option and a formidable expander/gate. You can sculpt the dynamics of your sources with the same precision as on the flagship consoles, whether it's controlling a rebellious vocal or making a drum kit more punchy. An added bonus is the ability to move the dynamics section before or after the EQ, opening up different playing fields depending on your approach. Add to this the Input Flip to make the signal travel, and you soon realise that this unit is not just a channel strip, but a real Swiss Army knife for your rack.
And what about the equalisation? Between the character of the Pink Knob 292 circuits inherited from the G-Series and the surgical precision of the Black Knob 242 from the E-Series, you get the best of both worlds. The 4 parametric bands combine with high-pass and low-pass filters to sculpt the spectrum to perfection. Add to that sidechain routing with stereo link and repositionable insert, and you've got a creative terrain where every setting becomes an assertive aesthetic choice, not just a technical adjustment.
