EMG - EXB Bass Expander Pot

The EMG EXB is an active EQ control designed for bassists who want to fine-tune their sound with precision. Unlike a simple tone pot, it acts like a mini dynamic EQ: by boosting the bass and treble while attenuating the midrange, it changes the character of the bass in depth. This 'V' curve gives more space to the extremes of the spectrum, while making the sound more percussive, brighter and wider.

This type of EQ is particularly sought after in modern or technical styles, such as slap, funk, active rock or contemporary pop, where every attack needs to come out clean. The EXB opens up the sound without making it muddy: the bass remains defined, the treble precise, and the whole gains in dynamics without the need for an external pedal or rack.

Technically, the EXB is an active module to be wired in series in the signal chain. It has a dedicated input and output, with buffered inputs that guarantee compatibility with both passive and active microphones. The effect is progressive and fully controllable via the rotation of the potentiometer: on the far left, the sound remains flat; on the far right, equalisation is fully active. This gives you a real margin of adjustment in real time.
