Studio Channel

The Empiral Labs DocDerr is a 500 Series Channel Strip module with a low-noise preamplifier that gives you up to 16dB gain, a 3-band parametric EQ (with selectable high-pass filter) Built-in tape emulation, compression and a mix button. This button allows you to mix the uncompressed signal with the saturated and compressed signal. Empirical Labs has created this module to give your signal an impressive punch in any mix, and give you total control.

  • Six sections of digitally managed analog processing.
  • Frequency response: 3 Hz to 180 kHz on the equalization section (in -3 dB).
  • Dynamic range: 120 dB between minimum level and maximum output level (0.5% DHT, soft clipping). The background noise with the Mix button set to 0 is - 91 dBu (typical value).
  • Distortion range - between 0.0006% and 10% at 1 kHz, depending on the mode and settings.

  • Time variables of the compressor: Attack of about 1 ms. Internally fixed recovery approximately 0.2 s. Stereo coupling for stereo tracks. With the EL500 powered rack case, one key allows coupling.
  • Input impedance: 120 kOhm, Instrument In input:
  • Output impedance: less than 75 Ohms.
  • Impedance of 20 kOhms on the balanced line input.
