Epiphone - 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue Deep Cherry Sunburst + Etui
The 1959 Les Paul Standard Reissue from Epiphone combines period elegance with modern ruggedness in a familiar silhouette, an assertive vintage temperament and a construction that speaks volumes. Inspired by Gibson's iconic model, this revisited version features a mahogany body, carved maple top and luthiery designed to maximise sustain. The 1959 Rounded Medium C neck profile, rosewood fingerboard and Gibson Custombucker pickups make this a faithful homage, aimed at those who love riffs with life, but without the price tag of vintage models.
Presentation
The guitar is fitted with two Gibson Custombucker pickups with Alnico 3 magnets, bringing back that hushed fatness that can only be found by rummaging through old vinyl records. The hand-wired electronics are based on CTS components, Bumblebee capacitors and a Switchcraft selector. All in all, we have here a configuration that winks at the guitar heroes of yesteryear, with components that might seem to have come out of a Californian garage in 1959, but which is in tune with today's amps.
Beneath the Brillant Vintage varnish, the flamed maple veneer is impressive, but not overdone. The Deep Cherry Sunburst finish brings visual balance to the mahogany body, as if the guitar had been bathed in light 65 years ago and still retains traces of it. And as the whole thing is housed in a hard case with a pink interior (yes, pink), it's both pomp and tenderness.

If you're looking for a companion amp to bring out the warm midrange of this guitar, a tube combo with a 12" speaker will do the trick. There's no need to chase after rarities, this guitar gets on wonderfully with well-bred amps.
The original 1959 model became famous thanks in particular to Peter Green and Joe Bonamassa. This reissue doesn't pretend to emulate them, but it does pay them a heartfelt bow.
