Golden Age Audio - R1 ACTIVE MKIII

The Golden Age Audio R1 Active MKIII takes the sonic aesthetics of the great classic ribbon microphones and removes their main constraints on use. Where a passive ribbon requires a very quiet preamp and extreme gains, the Active MKIII version incorporates buffer FET electronics perfectly suited to modern environments. The 48 V phantom power supply does not alter the ribbon's behaviour, but ensures stable, coherent amplification with no loss of character.

The sound signature remains true to the spirit of the ribbon: an extended bass, a solid, articulate midrange, and a very soft, never aggressive upper end. Transients are fast and natural, allowing the R1 Active MKIII to capture the impact of a drum kit, the depth of a guitar amp, the richness of a brass instrument or the texture of a voice with great precision. Its ability to handle extremely high sound pressure levels, up to 160 dB SPL, means it can be placed in front of powerful sources without fear.

This MKIII version also comes with two useful built-in tools: a high-pass filter to limit the build-up of unwanted bass and a -10dB attenuator to adapt the output level to the most demanding situations. These controls further extend the possibilities for use both in the studio and on stage.

With its figure-of-eight polar pattern, the R1 Active MKIII can also be used for Blumlein or Mid/Side stereo recording, making it ideal for ambient recording or creative applications. It retains the sonic DNA of vintage ribbons, while integrating seamlessly into contemporary audio systems.
