Hagstrom - Nekromant 5 Tobacco Sunburst

The Hagstrom Nekromant 5 Tobacco Sunburst is a 5-string electric bass designed for bassists seeking a wider low-end range and an instrument capable of delivering lines that are both deep and highly prominent in the mix. Its mahogany body features an asymmetrical Single Cut shape, giving it a distinctive silhouette, extended by a mahogany neck joined with a mortise-and-tenon joint. The 34" (864 mm) scale length retains a familiar feel for bass players, whilst the 15" (381 mm) Resinator™ fingerboard features 20 Medium Jumbo frets and Hagstrom Block inlays made from synthetic mother-of-pearl. With a nut width of 44.5 mm and spacing tailored to the five-string configuration, the neck provides ample room to fully utilise the additional range offered by the low B string.

In terms of tone, the Nekromant 5 features two passive Gehenna soap-bar humbuckers, designed to reproduce notes with warmth, clarity and balance. The Pickup Blend control allows you to adjust their presence, whilst the 3-band preamp offers real flexibility over the bass, midrange and treble, with cut/boost controls and a gain setting. The active/passive switch offers another way to approach the sound: you can shape your signal with the preamp or switch back to passive pickup operation, depending on the character you’re after. Whether you’re playing heavy riffs, sustained grooves or melodic passages up the neck, this configuration gives you plenty of scope to express your playing style.

The construction also contributes to this feeling of precision. The Hagstrom Custom CNC-machined brass bridge features individually adjustable roller saddles, making it easy to adjust intonation string by string whilst promoting good vibration transfer. The H-Expander™ truss rod runs the full length of the neck and contributes to its stability, with a thickness of 19 mm at the first fret and 20.5 mm at the twelfth. The Hagstrom tuning machines, with a 22:1 ratio, allow for extremely fine tuning adjustments. With its Tobacco Sunburst finish, the Nekromant 5 retains a warm aesthetic whilst showcasing the distinctive character of this series.
