Electric Guitar Effects

The PackRat is the ultimate tribute to 40 years of RAT evolution via 9 legendary or rare modes, all entirely analogue, and all perfectly reproducing the wear and tear of the components.

ARTICLE N° 82863
In 1978, the most versatile and influential pedal of all time was invented in Michigan, USA: Pro Co's RAT, based on the desire to create a pedal that could go from overdrive to distortion to fuzz.

In 1979, Scott Burnham finally managed to complete the circuit in his rat-infested workshop.

JHS Pedals studied 45 different RAT models and interviewed numerous Pro Co employees about the circuit's design, evolution and production over the decades to understand exactly what the production differences were, which involved dismantling and analysing each pedal, measuring individual components, making comparison charts, tracing each circuit and even examining logos and other changes.

The 9 modes available are based on the circuits and characteristics of RATs from different periods:

1. The OG V1 (1979-83) The OG mode is a perfect reproduction of the first RAT v1s ever built.

2. White Face V3 (1984-1986) This model has a more traditional Filter setting than the Tone.

3. Turbo V5 (1989) The Turbo RAT was the first to use LEDs in the clipping section of the RAT instead of diodes, producing a more powerful distortion.

4. BRAT V6 (1997) The BRAT was a budget RAT with a big sound and lots of unique modifications, it is without doubt the most original variation of all.

5. Dirty V7 (2004) This model uses germanium diodes instead of silicon, for an even dirtier sound.

6. LA (1986) The LA Metal is one of the most interesting versions of the RAT circuit from this period.

7. Landgraff MO'D (1999) A certain Mr Landgraff designed the MO'D, one of the best RAT-type distortions.

8. Caroline Wave Cannon The American manufacturer Caroline Guitar Company has developed the Wave Cannon, a superb variation on the RAT circuit that PackRat had to offer!

9. JHS Mode This is the modification that JHS Pedals has been making for years, taking everything Scott loves about this circuit and adding his favourite modifications.
