Lindell Audio - 7X-500

The Lindell Audio 7X-500 transposes the sonic aesthetics of classic FET compressors into a compact 500 series module designed for modern workflows. Its architecture is based on a fast, responsive FET circuit capable of both discreet dynamic control and the more intensive processing typical of drums, vocals or dynamic busses.

One of the distinctive features of the 7X-500 is its front-panel Dry/Wet mix control. This function allows parallel compression without external routing, retaining the impact and dynamics of the original signal while adding the density of the compressed signal. This type of control is particularly appreciated on drum busses, guitars or vocals that require punch without excessive crushing.

The compressor has three attack settings and three release settings, covering a wide range from very fast response to more progressive behaviour. This flexibility allows the compressor's response to be precisely matched to the source being processed. A three-position sidechain high-pass filter also preserves low frequencies, preventing them from triggering the compression excessively.

In terms of character, the 7X-500 clearly embraces its heritage. The three available ratios, including the extreme 100:1 mode, allow you to move from musical dynamic control to very aggressive compression, close to the famous "all-buttons" mode. The circuit is completed by a transformer-balanced output, providing a slight harmonic density and a welcome coherence of sound in an analogue environment.

Finally, the gain reduction is monitored by a 20 LED display, which is precise and easy to read, making it ideal for quick adjustments in mixing or recording situations.
