Martinez - Almeria Luthier Mahogany

The Martinez Almeria Luthier Mahogany is played whilst seated, with the knee raised, and the cutaway provides easy access to the top frets without straining the wrist. The attack is crisp under the fingernail, with a clear high note that rises quickly and falls just as swiftly – characteristic of the rhythmic style of flamenco.

Behind this rapid response lies a guitar design that is straightforward to play. The solid spruce top responds strongly to the ‘golpes’ and retains its high harmonics. The mahogany back and sides enclose the soundbox with a short, rumbling-free bass response, which leaves plenty of room for the treble. The gloss finish protects the wood beneath a thin layer, whilst the natural colour reveals the wood’s grain. The 650 mm scale length keeps the strings at a standard tension, and the 50 mm nut provides ample space for rapid, linked rasgueados.

Set up for a right-handed player, this Almeria Luthier Mahogany features six nylon strings in the 4/4 gauge of the Almeria series, assembled in China to the same flamenco specifications as its counterparts in the range. It is equally at home in flamenco lessons and rehearsals.
