Martinez - Standard 1/2 MC-20S RN Kid

The Martinez Standard 1/2 MC-20S RN Kid features the design of a classical guitar in a size tailored for children. Its 520 mm (20.47-inch) scale length reduces the distance between the frets, helping little hands move from one chord to the next without having to spread their fingers too wide. Part of the Standard series, this 1/2-size classical guitar is ideal for early lessons, whether at home or at music school.

The spruce top responds instantly when the strings are plucked, giving the notes a clear attack that can be heard right across the room. The mahogany back and sides add more roundness to the mid-range and body to this small instrument. Martinez highlights the laser-cutting of the wood to ensure consistent joints – a manufacturing detail that is particularly important on an instrument of this size.

The gloss finish gives the body a shop-window shine and can be cleaned with a soft cloth. The 50 mm (1.97-inch) nut keeps the strings at a comfortable distance from one another, allowing each finger plenty of room to manoeuvre.

This guitar is aimed at primary school children just starting lessons, whether at home or in conservatoire classes. Carulli’s early pieces, nursery rhymes played by ear and Wednesday afternoon scales all find an instrument here that’s just the right size. Once the pupil has grown, the 3/4 Senior version takes over.
