Presentation
After 12 years of loyal service, much to the delight of many users, Neumann is updating its KH 120 monitors.
The Neumann KH 120 II is a high-end studio monitor that offers exceptional sound performance. It is part of the Neumann line of studio monitors, recognised as a benchmark in many studios around the world. The KH 120 II maintains the philosophy of its predecessors by offering maximum linearity, minimum distortion, absence of coloration and perfect adaptability to any acoustic environment.
The KH 120 II offers a linear frequency response from 44 Hz to 21 kHz (±3 dB), with phase response linearity (which is rare enough to warrant mention). This translates into accurate midrange reproduction, astonishing transparency and great precision in the time domain, with accurate reproduction of impulses and reverberations. This is made possible by DSP-controlled electronics, which avoid the phase distortion caused by analogue filters and set new standards in tonal coherence. The manufacturing tolerance of the KH 120 II is also very low, at no more than ±0.5 dB, guaranteeing an ultra-clean stereo image.
The Neumann KH 120 II is designed for near-field applications, with a recommended listening distance of 1 to 2 metres, making it suitable for small spaces such as home studios, model studios, mixing and editing rooms, and as a surround speaker in multi-channel applications. Its portable format and exceptional linearity also make it an excellent choice for use on site, for example during live recordings or broadcasts.
The KH 120 II also features Neumann's MMD™ (Mathematically Modelled Dispersion™) waveguide, which ensures an ideal wide listening area and minimises reflections from the work surface. In addition, its internal DSP allows room calibration through automatic monitor alignment, performed by the MA 1 (sold separately). This ensures optimum adaptation of the monitor to the character of the room and perfect alignment for the listening position, even in acoustically treated rooms, significantly improving sound performance.
In terms of connectivity, the KH 120 II offers analogue and S/PDIF inputs for tonal compatibility with other studio monitors in the KH range, enabling it to be used in mixed systems, including immersive set-ups.
In short, the Neumann KH 120 II offers outstanding sound quality, perfect adaptability to any acoustic environment and great connectivity flexibility, making it an ideal choice for demanding sound professionals.
