Audio Interfaces

The TCO module is an optional extension for RME boards. Placed in a free slot in the computer chassis, the TCO is connected to the main board via a ribbon cable.

ARTICLE N° 79505
The small module provides HDSPe cards with a Word Clock input and offers synchronisation to the LTC and video. Thanks to SteadyClock(TM), the TCO not only extracts absolute positions from the LTC, but also a very clean, low-jitter word clock from the LTC and video. This ensures precise synchronisation of the timecode with the audio or video sources.
A single TCO can be used with different HDSP/HDPe cards at the same time (multi-card), if connected to a supported card (see graphic).

The LTC can be derived and generated in all common formats, i.e. 24, 25, 30 and 29.97 frames; drop-frame or non-drop-frame. Commonly used Pull-Up and Pull-Down formats (+/- 0.1% and +/- 4%) can be used, and PAL and NTSC video formats will be automatically detected and processed.
The received time code can be sent to the audio or video application as an ASIO Positioning Protocol (APP) or MTC. An application can send APP to the TCO, which will generate LTC in hardware with the lowest jitter (Windows only). Several flywheel functions facilitate tracking operation (adjustable stall length, Continuous- or Jam-Sync).

On Windows, the TCO provides the SMPTE position as APP (ASIO Positioning Protocol) and as MTC Sync. On Mac OS X, the TCO provides the SMPTE position as MTC Sync only.
The TCO has a combined switchable Word Clock/Video (BNC) input and an LTC (BNC) input. The Word Clock/Video input on the board can be easily terminated (relay controlled) with 75 Ohm termination from the settings dialogue box.

The TCO also has an additional LTC output (BNC) with two level settings (configurable via a jumper).

All parameters are easily accessible from an additional page in the HDSP motherboard parameters dialog box.

The clear and simple dialogue site appears automatically after a TCO has been installed. On the main page, the new TCO synchronisation option can be selected.

The dialogue box provides all the important options: Sync-Source (LTC, Video or Word Clock), termination for BNC input (75 Ohm), Frame Rate of incoming SMPTE signals and WCK Conversion.

In addition, the TCO dialog box displays Pull-Up and Pull-Down factors and Input State information on the incoming signal. For example, an incoming word clock signal is analysed and displayed as being in the Single Speed, Double Speed or Quad Speed range.
