RØDE NT2-A: a versatile studio microphone for detailed recordings

The RØDE NT2-A is a large-diaphragm condenser microphone designed for musicians, singers, sound engineers and creators seeking precise and adaptable recording. Its 25 mm gold-plated dual-diaphragm HF1 capsule is designed to reproduce the nuances of vocals and instruments with exceptionally low self-noise, rated at 7 dBA.

Its main strength lies in its three polar patterns, which can be selected directly on the microphone. The cardioid mode prioritises sound from the front and limits rear pickup. The omnidirectional mode picks up sound from all directions and is particularly well-suited to capturing ambient sound. The figure-of-eight pattern picks up sound from the front and rear whilst attenuating sound from the sides, a configuration useful for certain interviews or stereo recording techniques.

The NT2-A also features two essential controls for studio use. Its high-pass filter offers three settings: flat, 40 Hz and 80 Hz. This helps to reduce the impact of vibrations and unwanted low-frequency noise. Its switchable attenuator offers settings of 0 dB, -5 dB and -10 dB to better manage powerful sound sources and limit the risk of overloading the preamp input.

With a frequency response of 20 Hz to 20 kHz, an output impedance of 200 Ω and a sensitivity of -36 dB re 1 V/Pa, the NT2-A can be integrated into a recording setup equipped with an XLR microphone input and a compatible phantom power supply. It is suitable for spoken word, vocals, acoustic guitars, wind instruments and many other sources, provided the appropriate polar pattern and positioning are chosen.

The microphone comes with the SM6 shock mount, fitted with a removable pop filter, as well as a 6-metre XLR cable. This package provides a basic studio recording setup without the need to purchase these accessories separately straight away.
