Presentation
The Seymour Duncan Custom Shop FLF Model Humbucker is crafted in Santa Barbara, California, where every unit is hand-built in the brand’s Custom Shop workshop. There is no production line here. A craftsman winds and tests each pickup before it leaves the workbench.
Under the hood, two coils coexist without being alike. The first comes from the JB Model, the second from the Black Winter, and their combination brings the resistance up to 16.6 kΩ. Mounted at the bridge, this Alnico 4 bar magnet delivers high output that boosts the midrange, strikes with a percussive attack and deepens the bass on dropped tunings, whilst maintaining a smooth, almost subdued treble.
Beneath the black nickel posts and screws, the matt black coils conceal a shielded 4-conductor wiring configuration that opens the door to complex set-ups. The short mounting legs simplify fitting onto bodies with tight cut-outs, and the black Seymour Duncan Olde English logo is discreetly featured on the cover.
This pickup bears the signature of Ryan ‘Fluff’ Bruce, guitarist with the band Dragged Under, and comes fitted as standard on his Ernie Ball Music Man StingRay Artist Series. On stage, it powers aggressive rhythm parts in low tunings and high-gain leads, before settling into a softer, cleaner tone as soon as the volume is turned down.

To find out more...
Seymour Duncan was founded in California in 1976 by Seymour W. Duncan and Cathy Carter Duncan. The brand specialises in guitar and bass pickups, with a focus on research, winding and customisation. Its Custom Shop, based in Santa Barbara, produces models for artists as well as pickups tailored to specific requests. The company places great importance on the choice of magnets, the number of windings and the materials used in the components, in order to alter the character of a pickup. This artisanal approach explains the presence of numerous signature models in its catalogue.
