Allen & Heath - SQ-7
The latest-generation SQ-7 digital audio console features 32 mic preamps, 3 stereo inputs, an auxiliary input, 12 stereo mixes and a master, 16 assignable local outputs, an AES digital output, a headphone output with volume control, 8 mute groups, 8 DCA groups, 8 stereo effects with returns, 16 buttons and 8 assignable rotary encoders.
Presentation
Its flexible architecture means that any source or bus can be routed and assigned to the 192 available slots. The user interface is designed for efficiency: a large 7" capacitive touch screen, 16 SoftKeys, 8 backlit assignable encoders with screens, and customisable coloured LED displays for each channel. There are also dedicated physical controls for each processing section: preamp, gate, compressor, parametric EQ and delay.
The connectivity is on a par with its ambitions: SLink EtherCON port compatible with DX racks (96 kHz) and AR/AB audioracks (48 kHz), 64x64 I/O port for Dante, Waves or MADI cards, and 32x32 USB interface for recording or streaming. All this is complemented by a digital AES output, Word Clock inputs and outputs, and compatibility with ME personal systems.
On the processing side, the Allen & Heath SQ-7 incorporates 8 DEEP-type stereo effects engines, an AMM (Automatic Mic Mixer), flip-fader graphic EQs and a 31-band real-time analyser. Scene management (up to 300 per show) is remarkably fast and fluid, even in critical situations. Finally, remote control functions via iPad, foot switch and MIDI DAW control (USB or network) further extend the possibilities.
Solid, versatile, intuitive and formidably efficient, the SQ-7 is a console cut out for the stage as well as for advanced production, without compromising on audio quality or ease of use.
