D'Angelico - Excel EXL-1 Amber

Amber has a way of capturing the evening light, and the ‘Amber’ finish on this Excel EXL-1 does exactly that on stage. D’Angelico has reimagined its original 1947 archtop here, with a redesigned neck for an improved playing experience from the first chord to the last. The floating Seymour Duncan Johnny Smith mini humbucker pickup (Alnico II), mounted on the pickguard, delivers on the promise of a mellow, warm tone, tailor-made for jazz layers. Volume and tone controls are all you need to shape its sound.
The laminated spruce top resonates deeply, supported by the laminated flamed maple sides and back – a combination that gives the single-cutaway hollow-body design its natural roundness. The floating ebony bridge faithfully conveys every nuance, connected to the D’Angelico Stairstep tailpiece, which completes the silhouette with understated elegance. The 5-ply Scalini tortoiseshell pickguard adds that vintage touch that turns heads in the audience.
The three-piece neck, with a C-profile, glides comfortably under the hand thanks to its progressive thickness, ranging from 21 mm at the first fret to 23 mm at the twelfth. The ebony fingerboard, with a radius of 304.8 mm, features 22 Jescar 47/104 frets, whilst the 43 mm Graph Tech NuBone XL nut and Grover 150 Imperial tuners ensure the guitar stays in tune.
Fitted with D’Angelico Electrozinc Jazz 12-52 strings and supplied with a Deluxe hard case: this Excel is just waiting for its first jam session, one evening in a club, somewhere.
