Presentation
The warm grain of solid mahogany runs through the top, sides and back of the Excel Gramercy, which D’Angelico finishes in a glossy, natural mahogany colour without any artificial effects. The cutaway Grand Auditorium silhouette retains the brand’s signature New York-style lines, supported by a sculpted X-brace that structures the body under the tension of the D’Addario EXP-16 strings.
The construction features a set mahogany neck, attached to the body via a dovetail joint for long-lasting stability. The rosewood fingerboard, with a radius of 355.6 mm, features twenty Medium Jumbo frets and mother-of-pearl diamond inlays that mark the C-shaped neck profile. Bone saddles at both the headstock and bridge, a double-action truss rod, and five-ply binding on the headstock and body: every element of the instrument’s construction is designed with structural integrity in mind. The Stairstep-shaped rosewood bridge, combined with the Stairstep Wave tuners and their antique bronze finish, extends this visual consistency right through to the Throwback Scroll-Style headstock.
The Fishman Presys VT preamp, controlled by a single volume and tone control, brings this acoustic signature to the stage without altering the natural character of the wood. A three-ring rosette, a black Scalini pickguard and a Skyscraper ebony truss rod cover: the Excel finishes are equally suited to fingerstyle playing and rhythmic accompaniment, whether in a lounge setting or at an amplified concert.

D'Angelico is a New York brand of electric guitars that has existed since 1938. First went unnoticed because the guitars were manufactured only by hand in a very small workshop by two luthiers; it is in 2011, at a show at the New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, that D'Angelico is noticed. Since then, D'Angelico guitars have been a real success thanks to their quality of manufacture and their price.
