Presentation
With the Utopia DP289FSNLB pickup, DiMarzio has designed a very practical bridge pickup. Designed for Steve Vai, it has the same DNA as the famous Evolution, but with a more controlled touch.
The Evolution is a powerful, aggressive humbucker, designed in collaboration with Steve Vai, that delivers great clarity and plenty of overtones. It's ideal for high-energy styles of music that require a punchy attack and excellent definition, whether live or in the studio.
On the more modern Utopia version, the bass is brought to the fore for a deeper sound. The treble is also present but not aggressive, which helps to keep the sound clean even at high volumes.
The midrange has been toned down a little, so the sound is less biting but more manageable. In coil-split mode, this pickup pairs superbly with the UtoPIA Middle pickup.
The look doesn't go unnoticed either, with its baroque blue and nickel-coloured laser-cut plate. It's the kind of detail that looks great on a guitar.
