EMG - 89 Splittable Black Chrome

Behind its chrome-black exterior, it houses two very distinct cores: an active humbucker loaded with Alnico V, and a simple Strat-style coil. So you've got two pickups at your fingertips, which you can switch between with a simple gesture thanks to the push/pull potentiometer included.

In its humbucker configuration, it delivers a full, warm sound, with enough precision to prevent saturated chords from becoming muddled. The sound is very similar to that of the EMG 85, with generous sustain and good articulation, even in heavy distortion. Ideal for heavy rhythms as well as expressive solos.

But the real attraction of the 89 is its ability to transform itself. In single coil mode, it adopts a finer, more crystalline register, akin to the EMG SA. It's bright, airy and immediately sounds more vintage. Perfect for a funky rhythm, a clean arpeggio or a breathy bluesy solo.
